Welcome to Advanced Pottery at CSU. The advanced pottery courses are designed to help artists gain creative and technical skills needed to maintain a professional ceramics studio and studio practice. While individual students arrive with a range of goals - becoming professional artists, teaching Ceramics at the K-12 level, looking forward to graduate study, managing a community ceramics studio, or perhaps a lifelong practice as an amateur ceramist - within this course/studio we maintain that working towards that standards of a full time studio artist will inform any of these possible goals.
This course emphasizes the interdependence of two parallel practices of a studio ceramist: 1. research/critical thinking/understanding of history and theory relevant to the field and 2. development and exploration of technical skills and processes including forming, glazing, firing, and chemistry of ceramic materials.
